I make this dessert quite frequently and my family love it! It doesn’t take long to prepare and it is delicious! Enjoy!

Ingredients

60g butter or oil

1/2 cup (125 ml) milk

1/2 tsp vanilla essence

1/2 cup caster sugar

1 cup self raising flour

1 tbsp cocoa powder

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 tbsp cocoa powder, extra

2 cups (500ml) boiling water

 

1. Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Grease 1.5L ovenproof dish.

2. Boil jug/kettle.

3. Melt butter with milk in medium saucepan. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla essence and caster sugar, followed by sifted flour and cocoa. Spread mixture into dish.

4. Sift brown sugar and extra cocoa over top of mixture. 

5. Carefully pour boiling water over mixture.

6. Bake around 35-40 minutes. Leave to cool for 5 minutes before serving. 

 

*Other notes

-To make a healthier version substitute caster sugar with 1/2 cup maple syrup, coconut syrup etc. Substitute brown sugar with rapadura or coconut sugar. You can also substitute cocoa powder with cacao powder.
