In an interview last year, I mentioned how I like to do Face Steams every now and then. It’s really good for cleaning out and re-hydrating your skin.

(Simien,2014).

Some of the benefits of face steams include;

  • Helps cure acne
  • Fights ageing
  • Reduces pimples
  • Helps rid of blackheads
  • Inexpensive
  • Rejuvenates skin

You will need

  • A large bowl
  • A towel
  • 3-6 cups of boiled water
  1. Tie your hair back so it doesn’t get in the water.
  2. Pour water into bowl.
  3. Sit on a chair and so that you can comfortably place your head over the bowl.
  4. Drape the towel over your head and so it makes a tent over the bowl of water and yourself.
  5.  Close our eyes and steam your face for around 10-15 minutes, or until the steam cools.  Depending on tolerance levels, you may go under 10 minutes, but that’s ok. You could always steam for 5 minutes, take a break, and steam for another 5 minutes if it makes it easier.
  6. Splash a bit of cold water on your face or what I like to do is follow up with an ice cube facial.

Other notes:
-You can also add 1-2 drops of essential oils like lavender or tea tree oil( for oily skin) into the water before you steam.

-You can wait for the water to cool down and then water the plants, have a hot beverage (tea) or place it in the fridge, so it doesn’t go to waste once you’re done with the steam- as long as you haven’t used the oils.

-To help the time pass by, you can also play music during the Face Steam.

-Aim to do this only once or twice a week, as doing it too frequently can cause breakouts to be worse than it already is.
